A Lenapehoking Pharmacopeia with Brooklyn Public Library

  • Brooklyn Public Library Greenpoint Environmental Education Center 107 Norman Avenue Brooklyn, NY, 11222 United States (map)

For more than 10,000 years prior to the arrival of Europeans, the Lenni-Lenape inhabited present-day New Jersey, Delaware, southern New York and eastern Pennsylvania. On the isle of Mannahatta—known today as Manhattan—they burned fires to shape the land, stewarding an ecosystem that was at one time home to more distinct ecological communities per acre than Yellowstone National Park.

Join Greenpoint Library and Jess Turner for a workshop where patrons will explore key Lenape medicinal plants, many of which continue to flourish in our city today.  You will leave with a nutritive tea blend, made from plants growing abundantly in and around New York, that honors the fragility of our native ecosystem.
