What can I expect in my share?

Our founder Jess Turner has mapped out a vision of what the CSA season will look like on a page she’s set up called What’s in a Share. Have a look for a full picture of what you will receive this CSA season.

Jess will continue harvesting from the more than three dozen species of medicinal perennials she started from seed in 2022, supplementing on occasion with dried herbs from small, regenerative herb farms. The choices she makes for each share will be guided by the plants she uses herself, the remedies she finds her clients request most, what grows best on the allotment she tends in Hudson, NY and the medicinal crops with the highest yields.

You will be asked to complete a short form when you sign up to receive a CSA share—please feel to share the names of any plants you’d love to see in your herbal box there!

4 boxes of 5 herbal formulas—20 total—feels like a lot. how on earth will i use that much plant medicine?

CSAs help us tap into the abundance of the plant world. Jess is confident that you’ll love the formulas so much you’ll use up every drop by the time your next box arrives. She encourages you to share your bounty with friends and loved ones. These formulas will make gifts that help those you hold dear connect with the medicine of the earth.

what are youR growing practices?

Jess believes that the well-being of humans and the well-being of the more-than-human world are inextricably linked. She is committed to growing practices that support soil, pollinator and human health. All herbs will be grown without pesticides, herbicides, chemical fertilizers or synthetic inputs.

what is your cancellation policy?

Seasonal commitments from CSA members provide reliable income and economic stability to small growers. Thank you for supporting us as we support you! The CSA model is a season-long commitment, so there is unfortunately no option to cancel your share mid-season.

who is behind this csa?

Olamina Botanicals’ Community Supported Apothecary was created and conceived by our founder Jess Turner. 2024 marks the third year of the CSA.

Dancing into her elevent growing season, Jess apprenticed with her first community herbalist elder in 2014. She has farmed in Hawai’i, St Croix, the Hudson Valley and South Bronx and studied herbalism with Tammi Sweet, Mimi Hernandez, Adonito Flores, Tane Datta and at the Terra Sylva School of Botanical Medicine with Janet Kent and Dave Meesters.

A phytochemistry nerd who draws inspiration from the folk healing traditions of peasant people from around the world, Jess grows, sources and hand blends all of Olamina Botanicals’ formulas.
