Spring Plant Walk in Prospect Park

Spring is a time of beginnings. Plants wake up from hibernation. Shoots push up from the soil. Trees bud out, their sap running freely again. Energy perennials have stored in their roots moves above ground. Our bodies, too, are waking up: lymphatic fluid flows, the liver craves bitter greens and our cells seek nourishment so that our limbs can reach toward the sun.

On Sunday, May 19 from 1pm to 3pm, join Olamina Botanicals founder Jess Turner for a plant walk in Prospect Park where she will introduce you to healing weeds like Chickweed, Dandelion, Henbit, Cleavers and Violet, some of the first herbaceous beings to make their presence known at the dawn of spring. Jess will talk about the support these plants offer as the season transitions, explore their uses in folk medicine and share tasty nibbles she’s crafted with them.

You’ll leave with plant identification tools you can use to orient yourself to flora growing anyplace you may find yourself on Turtle Island, alongside a renewed sense of the plant magic that surrounds us—yes, even in New York City!

The walk is $40. Please click here to purchase a spot. Jess will email the meeting location two days before the walk.

Can’t make it Sunday 5/19? Jess will host three additional NYC plant walks in 2024 on Sunday 7/21, Sunday 9/15 and Sunday 11/17, from 1pm to 3pm. Mark your calendar!
